Working on the Computer

What's Ann Working on Now?

Spring is a super busy travel season for me. In the coming month, I'll be in Pittsburgh, San Antonio, Orlando, Vancouver, St. Louis (sadly, for only 24 hours!), Boston, and the wonderfully named Contoocook, New Hampshire. There is a great Orthodox retreat center there named St. Methodios that has some of the finest retreat house food ever. If you'd like to keep track of my travels, please sign up for my newsletter below.

In the midst of this travel spree, I am very excited to be joining with the deacons of the Archdiocese of Atlanta to offer a workshop on preaching called "Creating a Message that Lingers." If you are a participant in this workshop and would like to download a copy of the bibliography shared in which the links are live, you can find that handout here!

One event in the Fall that I am already beginning to plan for is a trip to Sweden sponsored by the Catholic Pedagogical Board. If you are in Europe and would be interested in having me come speak for your organization in September, please feel free to reach out. I would love not to fly over to Sweden for three days only!

Having Tough Conversations Post-Election?

The 2024 presidential election was tough on us all. In partnership with RENEW International, I have a new resource available to help with talking across divides. It is called "Many Voices, One Spirit: Building Bridges in Today's Divided Church." Because it received funding from the USCCB, the resource is free. Can you believe it? All you need to pay is postage. Even better, it is available in both English and Spanish. Order as many copies as you like. Gather your friends. Have a discussion on this topic together as we try to figure out how to best be with each other in this time.

I'd also like to invite you to check out two other resources I have available. Let's Talk About Truth --awarded second place in the 2021 Catholic Media Association Book Awards "Church Professional" category--is a great resource for digging into the Catholic tradition around truth and what it means to take truth as a central value in one's life. You can check out reviews of this book in both NCR and US Catholic, but hurry because there are only about 100 copies left in existence! Also, my book Redeeming Conflict is being used by parishes and dioceses and schools across the country as a tool for skillbuilding around having tough conversations during this time.

Finally happy to share with you an essay I wrote for NCR on conspiracy thinking called "Aquinas vs. QAnon." Conspiracty thinking has been coming up more and more frequently when doing workshops on tough conversations, and I'll admit that it is one of the toughest conversations out there. What can you do when someone you work with or--worse--someone you love seems trapped in conspiracy thinking? This is my own attempt at thinking it through. Happy to hear additional ideas you might have! (Photo by Priscilla Du Preez on Unsplash)

David and Goliath

Waking Up Goliath

In writing Redeeming Power, I interviewed over 40 ministry leaders to learn about how they have wrestled with questions related to the healthy and holy use of power in their own leadership journeys. I enjoyed talking to bishops and social media influencers, school superintendents and chancellors, pastors and CEOs, program directors, and even a rabbi! Highlights from these interviews are shared in this new podcast series.

You can find it:

  • on Apple Podcasts
  • on Spotify (Season One only)

Season One runs from December 2023 - April 2024.

Season Two runs from July 2024 - September 2024.
